The FBI has launched an effort to end a 51-day standoff between a group of ranchers and their supporters in Waco, Texas. FBI agents used tear gas to advance, then rammed a hole into the group's compound with an armored vehicle and sprayed tear gas. A bug that intercepts a fire believed to have been poured into the compound by the FBI to spread fuel sparked a massive fire on the outskirts of WACO, Tex., on Wednesday, May 23, 2014. That came true when the fire, believed to have set fire to the home of a rancher and his family in a rural area of West Texas, was destroyed on a prairie just hours after federal agents tried to evict the protesters, some of whom had been dispersed with tear gas during the 51-day standoff.
Fire Chief Rick Jones declined to comment, saying the shooting by the sectarians and explosives stored on the site had endangered firefighters - presumably the decision not to have firefighters on the scene.
