Baylor University Bears And Lady Bears
The Oklahoma Sooners travel to Waco, Texas, to face the Baylor University Lady Bears in a Big 12 clash for the first time since the 2012-13 season. That class could fight for a spot in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship Game against the Oklahoma State Wildcats. The Bears have won three national titles in the past eight seasons and continue their winning streak in their home state of Texas. With a new head coach and a strong junior class, the Bears are in a position to make another attempt at the championship.
The Bears won the conference in the regular season against Kansas and Kansas St. The Bears are 12-1 in their best season in program history.
Baylor took a spot in the Christmas Bowl and sent the Bears to a third bowl for the first time in program history. The Bears will celebrate their successful season on Saturday, December 29 at 7: 30 p.m. CT at the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.
Baylor football games return to campus for the first time since 1935, and the Bears have played their previous 64 seasons at Floyd Casey Stadium, which has been called Baylor Stadium since 1988, a 50,000-seat stadium just a few miles from campus.
TC and Baylor had the longest unbroken rivalry, though the series ended in the 1990s after the schools conferences. The 2010 season was a breakthrough for the Baylor Bears after suffering an early-season loss to rival TCU and their home opener against Texas A & M was postponed to the second week of the season because of a scheduling conflict with Texas Tech.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma Sooners are currently the Conference's standout team and have a chance to shock the Bears. No team has been able to defeat the Baylor Bears so far, but their defense at the highest level will be a major obstacle for the Sooners. Bolton said Baylor has improved its scoring potential and offensive production in eight games, making defensive work against the Cyclones, who come Saturday, all the more important. The Lady Bears will have to close Arkansas' outskirts because two of their star players are postplayers and they want to turn it into a battle inside and outside the paint.
The event will be held at Baylor Park, which is located on the Baylor University campus in Waco, Texas. The habitat is one of the most visited places on Baylor's campus, receiving more than 250,000 visitors each year, including over 5,000 children who receive unique educational experiences developed by the Baylor School of Education. Baylor has a reason to court donors: the Bears "commitment to educating their students, faculty and staff.
Since the Big 12 Conference was founded, Baylor has been one of only two teams to qualify for the Big 12 tournament each year, along with Baylor and Oklahoma. The university's athletics teams compete in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament every year, and in 2013 the Lady Bears won their first ever conference title and made it to the sweet sixteen of an NCAA tournament, losing to Louisville in a three-way tie for first place in their conference.
Baylor's defense set the tone, intercepting Heisman hopeful Collin Klein on a run play. Gibson has played one season - eight - so far, and a similar outburst from the Baylor Bears will be needed. The Lady Bears need a strong performance from Gibson and the rest of their offensive line, especially in the second half.
Teague could outnumber the Bears' offensive line, but UConn hasn't lost a game outside the conference. Bolton said Iowa State is struggling and won't get away with a team like Baylor.
Baylor canceled its expected home game against the Lady Bears last week because its coach Kim Mulkey tested positive for COVID 19.
In a letter to the Baylor family, president Linda Livingstone said: "Our Lady is ready to rest in her home at Baylor University, where she has lived for the past four years. Our Lady was accompanied and supported during her treatment by her family, friends, teammates, coaches, staff, students, alumni and the entire Baylor family.
Mulkey led the Lady Bears to the Final Four in 2010, where they lost to eventual champion UConn in the national semifinals. In 2006, Baylor's Heisman Trophy fate changed dramatically - winning quarterback John Elway led the Bears to their first victory over Texas since 1997. The 2006 Bears included a Heisman Trophy winner, Mamadou Diene, who was selected among the top five players in college football for the first time in his career.
On offense, junior Trinity Oliver is the best scorer Baylor has had so far. The women's team is known as the Sugar Bears, and the male nickname is Bear (which would work well for both sexes). The stars are: Elway, Diene, junior guard and senior guard, De'Anthony Thomas, senior center and junior forward, Kailen Williams, second guard.
