NEW YORK (AP) - With her home decor line, magazine, restaurant, marketplace, two bed-and- breakfasts near Waco, Texas, and five children, including a newborn, Joanna Gaines wears many hats and arguably doesn't have time to teach a class in design. So she's created an instruction manual of sorts in her new book, "Homebody."
The design maven admits having to scale back on control of the aesthetic in her home to allow her children to add personality to their space. Gaines says she particularly allows her two oldest children, son Drake, 13, and daughter Ella, 11, to have freedom to make choices and changes in their own rooms.
She recalls how her mother let her hang cat posters in her bedroom when she was growing up.
